"Jolene" 1950's Diner Inspired Dress Review | Heart of Haute (Formerly Heartbreaker)

Welcome back to another fabulous vintage-inspired dress review! In this blog post, I will be reviewing the beautiful dress “Jolene” by Heart of Haute – formerly known as “Heartbreaker Fashion” before changing its name. This dress boasts a classic 1950’s diner inspired look and feel.

I fell in love immediately with this dress after discovering it online. I believe Jolene came out back in 2014 or 2015. I didn’t have the budget to buy it right away as I was working on film projects at the time. I waited for it to go on sale but unfortunately, it was sold out. About a year later I found it via eBay but it was a size large. As I got it altered the seamstress suggested to keep it short as I’m “young”. Haha! I went along with it, but later regret it as it doesn’t have that 1950’s conservative feel.

What sold me the most of the dress is the lapel-style collar which is one of my favorite style of collars. I also like the red and black contrast. The floral pattern isn’t too loud either. I like how I can dress it up with black accessories to maintain a mature look. The skirt is A-line and isn't too flared so a petticoat isn't necessary. The dress comes with a belt with loops that blend in with the black waistline. The best thing is the belt is adjustable to any size and doesn't have any holes to adjust to. Other than that, you'll have leftover strap to tuck in.

Overall, the dress is very comfortable, has lots of appeal and feminine charm. This dress is truly a unique vintage reproduction that remains true to the time period. It also comes in a variety of styles including white, pink, light blue and even polka dot print.

I wore this dress for the 2017 Miss World of Wheels Pin Up Contest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is complimentary-worthy and blend in very nicely with 1950’s classic cars.

I believe this dress is no longer sold on the Heart of Haute official website. However you can find it on eBay, Poshmark, Amazon or Retro Vixens. Just search "Heart of Haute Jolene 1950's Dress".

Wear this dress for work, school, a meeting or even shopping. Dress it up with vintage gloves, heels or flats and a sequined 1950’s style handbag.

I can't wait to do more photo shoots with this dress. Perhaps a 1950's diner shoot again would work. For now I use it along with my reenactment series via Instagram and Facebook.

What's the Meaning of an Old Soul? Top 10 Traits of an Old Vintage Soul

You've probably heard the social term "old soul" but haven't given it much thought of what it really means. Old souls are thoughtful, misunderstood, very much in tune with the vintage times, and have profound wisdom to share. I've always considered myself an old soul - or vintage soul. Fitting in was never on my agenda.

Over the years I've experienced and observed interesting traits among true old souls. Not all old souls are the same, but they do share very strong, apparent characteristics that are easily identifiable.

In this post I'm going to share with you the top 10 traits of an old soul.

The biggest sign of an old soul is that they can't relate to people their own age. This is may be due to echoing the life of someone older - with wisdom and a different viewpoint of life. An old soul is someone who approaches life differently with a method of the olden days.

If you feel you have a plethora of wisdom that you find difficult to explain to people or they misunderstand you - perhaps you are an old soul. In the spiritual world an old soul is someone who may have reincarnated.

In the video below I describe ten traits of an old. I sometimes use the term "vintage soul" interchangeably. Of course there are many traits that can be found in an old soul. These are the top ten that can best describe one.

Be sure to leave a comment via the video on YouTube on some other traits you notice with old souls.

Seven (7) Tips on How to Prepare and Win a Pin Up Contest

Miss Lady Liberty Pin Up Contest - July 2018

Participating in a pin up contest can be an exciting, fabulous but yet nervous event! Over the years of working as a pin up model, I've competed in several pin up contests where I observed and learned tips on how to increase your chance of winning the title!

Miss Throwback Pin Up Contest - September 2018

I surprisingly made it to Top 5 for the 2018 Lady Liberty Pin Up Contest in Oak Creek, Wisconsin last summer. I was shocked when my contestant number was called! I'm pretty sure my talent portion helped my score. Yes - some contests have talent portions! Don't worry, I'll create a video on fun, creative talent ideas to do for a pin up contest.

In the video below I discuss seven wonderful tips on how to increase your chances to successfully win your next pin up contest. If this is your first pin up contest - this information is definitely crucial for understanding what judges look for. It takes a great deal to get up on stage, show your poses and talk about yourself. It feels intimidating at first but once you experience the process it feels better and you catch on. Another helpful hint is to do more than one contest to get familiar with the process.

Remember - the judges critique on mainly on stage presence, authenticity, showmanship and vintage style.

Thanks for watching! Good luck and have lots of fun!
